Itinerary

Depart to Štanjel, a fairy-tale village on Karst region. Listen to interesting stories about every day life in the past and famous Slovene-Italian-Austrian architect Max Fabiani. Fabiani was commisioned by Italian authorities to draw plans for reconstraction of towns in western Slovenia after WW I. He was a university professor as well and refused Adolf Hitler to study architecture.

Karst region is known for strong bora wind which affected its architecture. Walk through narrow streets of the town to the castle and the famous Ferrari garden with an oval secession styled pond.

Continue to a nearby wine cellar and listen to the explanation of the wine expert from the area. The most famous wine from Karst you will try is teran, a wine with a protected designation of origin within the EU. Drive down to the Vipava valley, one of the ten top destinations to visit in 2018 by the Lonely Planet, described as »surprisingly undiscovered region which excites wine lovers« and as »marvelous example of a hidden gem in Central Europe«. Visit Brda region, which is due to its hills and terraces known also as Slovenian Tuscany. Stop-by in Šmartno, the most preserved medieval town in the region, which has been for centuries a part of Venetian Republic. Admire its architecture and feel Slovenian-Italian vibe.
